Matthew Chapman is a lead reporter on the Bureau of Investigative Journalism's Big Tobacco project. His investigation into British American Tobacco's corporate espionage operation in Africa was the subject of the award-winning podcast series Smoke Screen, which has been described as "a belter of a podcast" by The Spectator. The investigation was also long listed for Private Eye's Paul Foot Award, and the whistleblowers involved won the Blueprint UK Whistleblowing Prize. Matthew's other work has seen him shortlisted for Press Gazette's British Journalism Awards 2021.
